You'll get the latest update on how Congress may change Medicare payments for home oxygen therapy this year as part of National Health Reform. You will also get an update on the industry's proposal for Congress to reform the Medicare home oxygen therapy benefit, its background and development, how it would work, and how you would get paid for the services you provide. Also learn the latest CMS changes to federal Medicare oxygen policy that will impact your business and your patients, including the latest changes that CMS is making regarding the 36 month cap and payments after the 36 month cap. Learn what you can do to affect change.

This session will provide a foundation for the critical components of the seating evaluation, key measurements of the mat evaluation and application of seating principles to address common problems associated with seating and positioning. These include posterior pelvic tilt with associated sliding out of the seat, kyphosis and forward lean, scoliosis and pelvic obliquity and how to accommodate asymmetrical postures, addressing abnormal tone, managing primitive reflexes and pressure management issues.


MARKETING A HOME RESPIRATORY PROGRAM (1 CRCE)**

This session focuses on the role of the clinician in the promotion and marketing of home respiratory services, and describes the cost and contribution of respiratory services to the revenue and profit of an HME provider. Discussion includes examples of innovative clinical programs that can enhance provider reputation, increase referral frequency and promote organic growth.


POWERED WHEELCHAIR ELECTRONICS UNCOVERED (.1 CEU/1 CEC)*

This session will introduce attendees to the programming options available in current power wheelchair electronics, terminology/definitions of all programming parameters and applications, and how to design an efficient system for the user. The differences between expandable and non-expandable electronics will be defined as well as proportional vs. digital input devices.


NON-DELIVERY OXYGEN TECHNOLOGY: GOOD FOR YOUR BUSINESS, GOOD FOR YOUR PATIENTS (1 CRCE)**

As oxygen reimbursement continues to shrink and business costs steadily rise, the profitability is being squeezed out of oxygen therapy. In an effort to reign in costs, providers need to find ways to continue to provide quality patient care without sacrificing services. Non-delivery oxygen technologies effectively reduce cost while enhancing patient care. This presentation looks at the financial and clinical benefits of non-delivery oxygen systems. The various systems will be reviewed and recommendations for their use will be discussed.

This session will focus on the clinical decision making process with regard to manual wheelchair configuration selection and the effect on postural support, functional performance, and the reduction of repetitive strain injuries and pain. In addition, proper measurements, wheelchair configuration and propulsion mechanics will be addressed to achieve optimal fit and function of the user. Clinical case studies will be utilized to highlight the concepts outlined above.


THE CLINICAL SCIENCE OF HOME OXYGEN THERAPY (1 CRCE)**

Long term oxygen therapy is a standard of care in the US for the treatment of patients with chronic hypoxemia. Despite its wide-scale use, there is limited science and frequent misperceptions regarding its use and the technology associated with the provision. This session examines the science and disputes the dogma associated with long term oxygen therapy.


PMD DOCUMENTATION: WHAT SUPPLIERS AND PHYSICIONS NEED TO KNOW (.1 CEU/1 CEC)*

This session will explore the many obstacles faced by medical equipment suppliers in their endeavor to obtain appropriate documentation for power mobility devices. This session also will review the necessary information for reimbursement of power wheelchairs and power operated vehicles and provide strategies on how suppliers can help educate physicians on the appropriate information to document for power mobility device coverage.


THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT SURFACES: TODAY MORE THAN EVER

This session will describe the added benefits therapeutic support surfaces can bring to the HME provider, and will include a review of the standard equipment and TSS technology, steps to qualifying patients, reimbursement changes, financial considerations, and documentation requirements. Mining for referral sources and key personnel, along with sales and marketing strategies to generate additional revenue growth with TSS products are also included.


WHEELCHAIR OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES: TO BILL OR NOT TO BILL? (.1 CEU/1 CEC)*

COMPETITIVE BIDDING - WHAT'S IT ALL MEAN? ARE YOU PREPARED?

Competitive Bidding is again a reality as CMS is set to begin the bid process in the first nine areas this Fall. In this session, you will learn all the facets to understanding and surviving the implementation of CMS' competitive bidding program as CMS moves forward in what CMS calls Round 1.2. Get the latest on the new CMS rule and other changes that CMS will or will not make with their second roll-out of the bid program. Get the latest details on how CMS is implementing competitive bidding in the first nine large metropolitan areas, including bidding rules, how the bid rates are set, how suppliers submitted bids, network options for smaller suppliers and more. Learn how competitive bidding will be rolled out in 70 more areas and affect the entire industry, your company and your consumers. Attendees will also learn the latest on Congressional efforts to modify the program, and learn how to best inform Members of Congress about the ill-effects of this program.
