Competitive Bidding Updates Congress passed the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement & Modernization Act in November 2003. In this vast legislative package were several provisions impacting our industry, including provisions providing for the phase-in of competitive bidding starting in 2008. In 2008, Congress delayed implementation of the competitive bidding program as part of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act. In August 2009, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that the Round 1 rebid would start in the fall of 2009, and the program would go live January 2011. |
